True Peace has a Name

I've been away from my computer for a while. Now that I'm back, it's interesting what comes to you in moments of solitude. Sometimes those quiet moments bring clarity and certainty about what's meant to be shared.

I haven't left my house much lately. We've settled in, turned this house into a home, and found peace within the sanctuary we've created. In many ways, that's been a beautiful thing. After spending so much of my life living in fight-or-flight mode, the quiet has been healing.

But somewhere along the way, comfort became isolation.

We've had groceries delivered, avoided unnecessary trips, and, if I'm being honest, I haven't even been attending church in person. I've watched online, and while I know the Holy Spirit is not confined to a building, something happened today that stirred something deep within me.

I had an errand to run, so I got dressed, fixed my hair, and headed out. The moment I stepped into the world, I felt it. The rushing. The impatience. The anxiety. The anger. The heaviness. Everywhere I looked, people seemed to be carrying burdens, chasing the next thing, reacting to the latest headline, and simply trying to make it through another day.

I found myself longing to get back home—to my peaceful little sanctuary.

But then the Lord gently asked me a question.

Is it really peace... or is it simply the absence of noise?

If you isolate yourself long enough, almost anywhere can begin to feel peaceful because you've removed the outside influences. But that's not necessarily the same as possessing genuine peace.

True peace isn't found in a quiet house.

True peace isn't found in avoiding the world.

True peace is found in the One who is Peace.

When we allow Jesus to fill every part of our hearts, His peace doesn't stay behind when we walk out the front door. It goes with us. It steadies us in the middle of chaos. It gives us direction when the world feels confused. It anchors us when everything around us feels unstable.

As I reflected today, I realized what had been missing.

Not my quiet home.

Not my routines.

Not even the absence of stress.

I had neglected the One who gives peace itself.

I've become so comfortable protecting my peace that I unintentionally stopped pursuing the Prince of Peace.

Today was a reminder that my sanctuary isn't these four walls.

My sanctuary is Jesus.

Because if my peace only exists inside my home, then it isn't the kind of peace Christ promised. His peace walks with me into grocery stores, through traffic, into difficult conversations, and into every uncertain season.

"For He Himself is our peace." — Ephesians 2:14

For me, that's what's been missing.

I've neglected the only true peace anyone can ever have.

And His name is Jesus.
